Can you offer any constructive criticism on my photography?

I think composition is the main thing you should work on. Think about rule of thirds, positioning the subject a third the way into the frame (either horizontally or vertically) instead of dead center. I agree with someone above me who said to get down at eye level with the kids. Steer clear of typical photography subjects, and ask yourself, how can I make this everyday picture fantastic? Take risks, be creative, have fun!
